Trellis Headband

 

Trellis-Headband-683x1024Summertime is here and with it the promises of hiking through the high mountain tops and discovering new streams and meadows. Keep your hair in check with the trellis headband that blends in with the foliage. 

LOOM:  All-n-One Loom or ‘Premium’ Round Loom Set, 25 pegs used.

YARN:  Approx  60 yds of worsted weight merino wool.  Knit Picks Preciosa Tonal in Tadpole was used in sample.

NOTIONS:  Knitting tool, tapestry needle.

GAUGE: 20 sts x 17 rows = 4”

SIZE:  16.5” long (plus the icords) x 5″ wide

yo=yarn over (ewrap the empty peg, on next row, undo ewrap and place this strand of yarn in front of the peg and treat it as a stitch)

Set knitting loom with the spacers at opposite ends–you will be using 25 pegs.

Cast on 25 sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1 (going from right to left (clockwise) on the loom): k to the end of row.

Row 2: p to the end of row.

Row 3: k2, k1, *yo, k3, CDD, k3, yo, k1; rep from * to last 2 sts, k2.

Row 4 (and all even rows): p2, k to last 2 sts, p2.

Row 5, 7, 9: Rep Row 3.

Row 11, 13, 15, 17: k2, k2tog, *k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, CDD; rep from * to last 11 sts, k3, yo, k1, yo, k3, ssk, k2.

Row 18: p2, k to last 2 sts, p2.

Repeat Rows 3 to 18 until piece measures 12” from CO edge.

Next row: k to end.

Next row: p to end.

**Next row: k1, k2tog, k to last 3 sts, ssk, k1.

Rep last 2 rows until 5 sts rem.

On rem 5 sts, work a 5 st icord that is 8 inches in length. Bind off. Weave ends in. **

On the cast on edge, pick up 25 stitches and place them back on the knitting loom.

Rows  3, 5, 7, 9 are all the same. The row is over 25 pegs. Pegs 1 and 2, and pegs 24 and 25 maintain the garter stitch edging, so the only pegs we have to worry about are pegs 3-23 (21 pegs total). We recommend to move all the stitches to their new positions before knitting the row.

Step 1: Move loop from peg 7 to peg 8, move loop from peg 9 to peg 8, (pegs 7 and 9 are empty) peg 8 has three loops on it.

  • Move loop from peg 6 to peg 7
  • Move loop from peg 5 to peg 6
  • Move loop from peg 4 to peg 5
  • Peg 4 is empty
  • Move loop from peg 10 to peg 9
  • Move loop from peg 11 to peg 10
  • Move loop from peg 12 to peg 11
  • peg 12 is empty

Step 2: Move loop from peg 17 to peg 18, move loop from peg 19 to peg 18, (pegs 17 and 19 are empty) peg 18 has three loops on it.

  • Move loop from peg 16 to peg 17
  • Move loop from peg 15 to peg 16
  • Move loop from peg 14 to peg 15
  • Peg 14 is empty
  • Move loop from peg 20 to peg 19
  • Move loop from peg 21 to peg 20
  • Move loop from peg 22 to peg 21
  • Peg 22 is empty

Step 3: Knit peg 1 to 3, ewrap peg 4, knit pegs 5 to 11 (treat all three loops on peg 8 as one loop), ewrap peg 12, knit peg 13, ewrap peg 14, knit pegs 15-21 (treat all three loops on peg 18 as one loop), ewrap peg 22, knit pegs 23 to 25.

Step 1: Lift loop off peg 3 and hold it. Move loop from peg 4 to peg 3. Place the loop you are holding back on peg 3 (Peg 4 is empty).

  • Move loop from peg 5 to peg 4
  • Move loop from peg 6 to peg 5
  • Move loop from peg 7 to peg 6
  • Peg 7 is empty

Step 2: Move loop from peg 12 to peg 13, move loop from peg 14 to peg 13 (Pegs 12 and 14 are empty).

  • Move loop from peg 11 to peg 12
  • Move loop from pg 10 to peg 11
  • Move loop from peg 9 to peg 10
  • peg 9 is empty
  • Move loop from peg 15 to peg 14
  • Move loop from peg 16 to peg 15
  • Move loop from peg 17 to peg 16
  • Peg 17 is empty

Step 3: Lift loop from peg 23 and hold it, move loop from peg 22 and place it on peg 23. Place the loop you are holding back on peg 23 (Peg 22 is empty).

  • Move loop from peg 21 to peg 22
  • Move loop from peg 20 to peg 21
  • Move loop from peg 19 to peg 20
  • Peg 19 is empty

Step 4: Knit pegs 1-6 (treat both loops on peg 3 as one loop), ewrap peg 7, knit peg 8, ewrap peg 9, knit pegs 10-16 (treat all three loops on peg 13 as one loop), ewrap peg 17, knit peg 18, ewrap peg 19, knit pegs 20-25 (treat both loops on peg 23 as one loop).
