Baby Bow Hat and Booties

LOOM: KB Baby-Knit Looms

YARN:  Approx 110 yds of worsted weight merino wool yarn. Red Heart Chic yarn, 1 skein (less than 1 skein used) in Mai Tai, and Linen (about 30 yds), used in sample.

NOTIONS:  knitting tool, tapestry needle

GAUGE: 11 sts and 16 rows = 2”

SIZE:  Hat and booties recommended for 0-3months

ABBREVIATIONS

Approx=approximate

k=knit stitch. May substitute with u-stitch.

p=purl stitch

rnd(s)=round(s)

mc=main color (pink)

cc=contrasting color (off white)

sl=slip (skip the peg with yarn towards back of peg)

w&t=wrap and turn

INSTRUCTIONS

Hat

With MC, cast on 56 sts, green loom, prepare to work in the round.

Rnd 1-8: *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Next 4 rnds: k to end. Cut MC, join CC.

Next 6 rnds: k to end. Cut CC, join MC.

Next 26 rnds: k to end.  (Piece measures approx 5.5 inches from cast on edge.)

Next 4 rnds: *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Remove with modified gather bind off.

Weave ends in.

Bow

With MC, cast on 12 sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1: k to end.

Row 2: p to end.

Repeat Row 1-Row 2: 18 more times (20 total rows).

Bind off with basic bind off method.

Bow Loop

With CC, cast on 6 sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1-10: Sl 1, k to end.

Bind off with basic bind off method.

Mattress stitch the Bow Loop to the hat by aligning it to the first row of the CC color band and to the last row of the CC color band.

Booties
(Make 2)

With MC, cast on 24 sts, with purple loom, prepare to work in the round.

Rnd 1-4: *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Rnd 5-8: k to end. Cut MC, join CC.

Rnd 9-11: k to end. Cut CC, join MC.

Next 6 rnds: k to end.

Create a short row heel over 12 stitches (see below for short-row heel instructions).

Continue working in the round.

Next 14 rnds: k to end of rnd.

Create a short-row toe over 12 stitches (follow same instructions as for heel).

Remove with Kitchener Stitch.

Weave ends in.

Little Bows

Using the chain stitch, make a chain with 60 crochet chains. Bind off. Make a small bow with the chain. Secure the bow tightly to the contrasting color band of the bootie.

Short-row heel over 12 stitches

Heel

Work heel in short-rows over the first 12 stitches.
Place a peg marker on peg 1 and peg 12.

Knit from 1-11.  W&T 12.

Knit from 11-2.  W&T 1.

Knit from 2 -10.  W&T 11.

Knit from 10-3.  W&T 2.

Knit from 3-9.  W&T 10.

Knit from 9-4.  W&T 3.

Knit from 4-8.  W&T 9.

Knit from 8-5.  W&T 4.

(Note: The following increase rows will require working all previous wraps and stitches together as one as the pegs are knit and w&t’d. This can be up to 2 wraps and a stitch worked as one.)

Knit from 5-9.  W&T 10.

Knit from 9-4.  W&T 3.

Knit from 4- 10.  W&T 11.

Knit from 10-3.  W&T 2.

Knit from 3 -11.  W&T 12.

Knit from 11-2.  W&T 1.

Pegs 1 and 12 have two wraps and the stitch. On the first round of the sole and foot, work the pegs with the extra wraps together with the stitch.

Foot: Begin working in the round once again.

Modified Gather Bind Off Instructions

Cut 2 pieces of yarn that are approximately 24 inches long.

Thread tapestry needle with one of the pieces of yarn. Remove all the purl stitches onto the piece of yarn.

Thread second piece of yarn and remove all the knit stitches from the loom.

Locate the first piece of yarn and cinch the purl stitches tightly close.

Locate the second piece of scrap yarn and cinch it all the knit stitches.

Tightly weave all tail ends to the wrong side of the hat.
