Bitty Bear Hat

ABBREVIATIONS

K=knit stitch (u-wrap or true knit stitch)
P=purl stitch
St(s)=stitch(es)
Rep=repeat
Rnd(s)=round(s)

NOTES: Place a stitch marker on a peg to designate it as the first peg.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 56 sts, join to work in the rnd.

Rnd 1-10: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Rnd 11-50 (or until hat measures approx. 6.5” from cast on edge): k to end of rnd.

FINISHING

Bind off with gather bind off method.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly.

EARS

(make 2)

Leave a long tail before the cast on to use to seam the ear to the top of the hat.

Cast on 12 sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1, 3, 5, 7: k to end.

Row 2, 4, 6, 8: p to end.

Prepare the loom for the next row by moving the stitches as follows:

Loop from peg 1 to peg 2.

Loop from peg 3 to peg 4.

Loop from peg 5 to peg 6.

Loop from peg 7 to peg 8.

Loop from peg 9 to peg 10.

Loop from peg 11 to peg 12.

Only ½ the pegs have loops on them.

Next row: k to end.

Next row: p to end.

Bind off with basic bind off. Leaving a 16” yarn tail.

Using the cast on yarn tail cinch down one side of the ear by passing the yarn tail through the purl bumps.

Gently cinch it down. Repeat on the other side of the ear. 

EAR ASSEMBLY TO HAT

Using the bind off yarn tail, sew the ear to the top of the hat. Repeat with the other ear.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly.

 

LOOM:  Baby-Knit Looms, 56 peg loom

YARN: Approx 85 yds of worsted weight merino wool. Drops Big Merino in color 05 was in sample.

NOTIONS:  knitting tool, scissors, tapestry needle.

GAUGE: 9 sts x 14 rows=2 inches in stockinette.

SIZE: Instructions as provided fits a head circumference up to 14”.
