NOTES:

Place a stitch marker on a peg to designate it as the first peg.

INSTRUCTIONS

Using CC color, cast 56 sts, join to work in the rnd.

Rnd 1-10: k to end of rnd.

Rnd 11, 13, 15, 17: p to end of rnd.

Rnd 12, 14, 16, 18: k to end of rnd.  

Cut CC, join MC.

Rnd 19: *k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Rnd 20: *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Rep Rnd 19 and Rnd 20 until hat measures approximately 6.5 inches from cast on edge.

FINISHING

Bind off with gather bind off method. Weave in all ends.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly.

BACK OF EARS

(make 2)

Using MC, cast on 11 sts (left to right)

Row 1: k to end.

Row 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16: p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Row 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15: k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Decrease: Remove the loop from peg 1 and place it on peg 2. Remove the last loop (from peg 11) and place it on the adjacent peg to the right (peg 10).

9sts remain.

Next row: p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Next row: k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Decrease: Remove the loop from peg 1 and place it on peg 2. Remove the loop from the last peg and place it on the adjacent peg to the right.

7sts remain.

Next row: k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Next row: p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Decrease: Remove the loop from peg 1 and place it on peg 2. Remove the loop from the last peg and place it on the adjacent peg to the right.

5 sts remain.

Next row: p1, *k1, p1; rep from * to end.

Next row: k1, *p1, k1; rep from * to end.

Bind off with gather removal method. 

Inner Ear
(make 2)

Cast on 8 sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1-16: k to end.

Row 17: Remove loop from peg 1 and place it on peg 2.  Remove loop from peg 8 to peg 7.

5 sts remain. K to end.  

Row 18: k to end.

Row 19: Remove loop from peg 1 and place it on peg 2.  Remove loop from peg 5 to peg 4.

3 sts remain.

K to end.

Bind off with gather removal method. Leave a 20-inch yarn tail.

Ear assembly:

Use the yarn tail to sew the inner ear to the back part of the ear.

EAR ASSEMBLY TO HAT

Use the beginning yarn tail to sew the cast on edge (the wider part of the ear) of the ear flat.

Using remaining yarn tail, sew the ear to the top of the hat.

Repeat with the other ear. Weave in all ends. Block lightly.
