Simple Swim Cover-Up/ Summer Top


Lot of options for the easy pattern! Wear knit as a swimsuit cover or as a summer top.  See video of the Elongated Knit Stitch at end of pattern.

LOOM:  KB Multi-Knit Loom, 86 (94, 102) pegs.

YARN:  Approx. 700-1000 yards of worsted weight yarn. Sample was worked with Lion Brand Re-Tweed in Skyway.

NOTIONS:  Tapestry needle, row counter, stitch markers (2), 2 size US1 double pointed needle.

GAUGE: 8 sts x 10 rows = 2” in garter stitch.

SIZE: S (M, L). Measurements when laid flat: 23”, 25”, 27”.

k=knit stitch (may use the u-stitch, or true knit stitch)

NOTES

Elongated stitches are worked over two rows. On the first row, the elongated stitch is set up by wrapping the peg multiple times (the more wraps, the longer the stitch/larger the lace effect). On the second row, the extra wraps are dropped to create the elongated stitch.

How-to: Knit or Purl the peg as instructed on the pattern, then ewrap the peg the number of times indicated in the pattern. The peg will have the extra wraps on it. On the next row, drop the extra wraps from the peg, then work the peg as indicated in the pattern (either knit or purl).

INSTRUCTIONS

(Make 2)

Cast on 86 (94, 102) sts, prepare to work a flat panel.

Row 1, 3, 5, 7: k to end of row.

Row 2, 4, 6, 8: p to end of row.

**Row 9: *k1-wrap 3 times; rep from * to end of row.

Row 10: *p1-drop wraps; rep from * to end of row.

Row 11: k to end of row.

Row 12: p to end of row.

Row 13: k to end of row.

Row 14: p to end of row.**

Rep from ** to ** until panel measures approx. 22” (24”, 26”) from cast-on edge.

Next row: k to end of row.

Next row: p to end of row.

Next row: k to end of row.

Next row: p to end of row.

Bind off with the basic bind-off method. Weave all ends in.

Assembly

Shoulders: Lay both pieces flat, wrong sides facing each other. Using the mattress stitch, seam approx. 3” (3.5”, 4”) at each side.

Armholes: Using mattress stitch, seam at the sides on a garter stitch ridge section, approximately 10.5” (11”, 11.5”) down from the shoulder seam.

Weave in all ends. Block lightly.
