Tiny Twirls Socks

The Basic Loom can be perfect to create some warm and cozy socks using worsted weight yarn. 

LOOM: 32-Peg Basic Loom.

YARN: Approx 220 yds of worsted weight wool. Patons Classic Wool in Lavender Gray colorway was used in sample.

NOTIONS:  Row counter (optional), stitch markers (2, to mark where the heel starts/ends).

GAUGE: 11 sts x 15 rows = 2”

SIZE: Shown in women’s size 7.5. Circumference of the 32-peg loom with worsted weight yarn creates a tube that fits up to a 9.5 inch circumference foot.

LC: Cable over 2 stitches, crosses left (see instructions below)

NOTES:

Left Cross (LC) Instructions

Step 1: Take working yarn behind peg 1 (you are skipping peg 1).

Step 2: Knit peg 2 and place stitch on cable needle and hold it to the center of the loom.

Step 3: Move stitch from peg 1 to peg 2 (leaving peg 1 empty).

Step 4: Place stitch from cable needle on peg 1.

Step 5: Knit peg 2.

INSTRUCTIONS

Cast on 32 stitches, all around the knitting loom, join to work in the round.

Cuff

Round 1-18: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Leg

Round 1: *k2, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Round 2: *LC, p2; rep from * to end of rnd.

Repeat Rounds 1 and Round 2 of Leg instructions. Sample shows 62 rounds total in the Leg section.

Heel

Work a German Short-Row heel (or a heel of your choice) over the first 16 pegs. Place a stitch marker on peg 1 and another on peg 16. The heel is worked over those 16 pegs. (see step-by-step instructions for heel after the pattern).

Sole & Instep

Next round: k to end of round.

Repeat last round until foot measures the desired length minus 1.5 inches (sample measures 7.5 inches from back of heel for a size 7.5 women).

Toe

Work a German Short-Row toe (same instructions as the heel), or a toe shaping of your choosing.

Close using the Kitchener stitch.

Weave ends in. Block lightly.

German Short-Row Heel, over 16 Pegs

Knit from peg 1 to peg 16. Turn at peg 16.

Knit from peg 15 to peg 1. Turn at peg 1.

Knit from peg 2 to peg 15. Turn at peg 15.

Knit from peg 14 to peg 2. Turn at peg 2.

Knit from peg 3 to peg 14. Turn at peg 14.

Knit from peg 13 to peg 3. Turn at peg 3.

Knit from peg 4 to peg 13. Turn at peg 13.

Knit from peg 12 to peg 4. Turn at peg 4.

Knit from peg 5 to peg 14. Turn at peg 14.

Knit from peg 13 to peg 3. Turn at peg 3.

Knit from peg 4 to peg 15. Turn at peg 15.

Knit from peg 14 to peg 2. Turn at peg 2.

Knit from peg 3 to peg 16. Turn at peg 16.

Knit from peg 16 to peg 1. Turn at peg 1.

Knit from peg 2 to peg 17. Turn at peg 17.

Knit from peg 16 to peg 32. Turn at peg 32.

The knitting loom has an extra turn at peg 17 and at peg 32. Yarn is by peg 32, ready to begin the next round for the Sole and Instep.
