socks_multi3Loom Knitting Advent Day 3 brings you a pair of warm and colorful socks!

Skiing and snowboarding season is here! Keep those toes nice and toasty with a pair of handknit wool socks.  Worked in bright and colorful Noro yarn.

Knitting loom:Sock Loom 2, 36 pegs.

Yarn: Approx 320 yards of worsted weight wool yarn. Noro Kureyon color 274 was used in sample.

Notions: Knitting tool, tapestry needle, 2 double pointed needles size 8 (to hold stitches to close the toe)

Gauge: 8 sts x 13 rows in 2 inches

Size: Designed to fit loosely, to be worn with an extra pair of socks under for cold winter days. Fits a US size 8.5 women’s as shown.

INSTRUCTIONS

LEG

CO 36 sts, prepare to work in the rnd.

Rnd 1-12: *p2, k2; rep from * to the end of rnd.

Next 16 rnds: follow Ripple Rib Stitch Chart.

Rep last 16 rnds: 2 more times.

Place stitch markers on pegs 1 and 20. The heel (and sole) is worked on the first half of the pegs; the instep is worked on the remainder second half of the pegs. The heel (and sole) is worked in stockinette, the instep will continue with Ripple Rib Stitch pattern.

BEGIN HEEL

Work a short row heel over 20 (see below for step by step instructions on short-row heel).

INSTEP & SOLE

Next 16 rnds: k20 (on pegs with a loop and  wrap, treat both the wrap and the loop as one stitch and knit them together), cont with Ripple Rib Stitch Chart on next 16 sts.

Rep last 16 rnds, until sole measures 7.5  (or 2 inches less than desired foot length) inches from heel.

TOE

Rep short-row heel instructions.

CLOSING

Seam the toe with the kitchener stitch.

Short Row Heel over 20 pegs (Pegs 1 through peg 20)

Row 1: Knit from peg 1 to peg 19. Wrap and turn peg 20.

Row 2: Knit from peg 19 to peg 2. Wrap and turn peg 1.

Row 3: Knit from peg 2 to peg 18. Wrap and turn peg 19.

Row 4: Knit from peg 18 to peg 3. Wrap and turn peg 2.

Row 5: Knit from peg 3 to peg 17. Wrap and turn peg 18.

Row 6: Knit from peg 17 to peg 4. Wrap and turn peg 3.

Row 7: Knit from peg 4 to peg 16. Wrap and turn peg 17.

Row 8: Knit from peg 16 to peg 5. Wrap and turn peg 4.

Row 9: Knit from peg 5 to peg 15. Wrap and turn peg 16.

Row 10: Knit from peg 15 to peg 6. Wrap and turn peg 5.

Row 11: Knit from peg 6 to peg 14. Wrap and turn peg 15.

Row 12: Knit from peg 14 to peg 7. Wrap and turn peg 6.

Row 13: Knit from peg 7 to peg 13. Wrap and turn peg 14.

Row 14: Knit from peg 13 to peg 8. Wrap and turn peg 7.

Row 15: Knit from peg 8 to peg 14 (treat the wrap and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 15.

Row 16: Knit from peg 14 to peg 7 (treat the wrap and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 6.

Row 17: Knit from peg 7 to peg 15 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 16.

Row 18: Knit from peg 15 to peg 6 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together).
Wrap and turn peg 5.

Row 19: Knit from peg 6 to peg 16 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 17.

Row 20: Knit from peg 17 to peg 5 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 4.

Row 21: Knit from peg 5 to peg 17 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 18.

Row 22: Knit from peg 17 to peg 4 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 3.

Row 23: Knit from peg 4 to peg 18 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 19.

Row 24: Knit from peg 18 to peg 3 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 2.

Row 25: Knit from peg 3 to peg 19 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 20.

Row 26: Knit from peg 19 to peg 2 (treat the wraps and the loop as one stitch, and knit them together). Wrap and turn peg 1.
